Three sightseeing tour options are available for selection during registration.
- The Wieliczka Salt Mine (UNCESCO site) guided tour (4h)
The Wieliczka Royal Mine is one of the oldest and most beautiful rock salt mines in the world and the longest operating industrial plant. The mine was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978 as one of the first 12 sites in the world. Salt in Wieliczka was mined continuously for 700 years until 1996. Technical aspect: The full trip takes approximately 4 hours, including travel time. The guests will be picked up from the conference venue in Kraków and transported to the historic mine by bus. During the 2.5-hour underground tour, you'll traverse 800 stairs through 20 chambers, descending 135 meters below ground level to explore the fascinating depths of the mine. Please keep in mind that the tour is in closed and tight spaces and there is no other access than the staircase.
Inside, a short break for a rest is planned together with a visit to the souvenir shop. Don't miss this opportunity to uncover the secrets of one of Poland's most iconic landmarks.
- Medieval Kraków: Collegium Maius JU (1h) + Rynek Underground Museum (2h)
It is a combined visit to two impressive museums in the old town area. The tour will start in the hall of the Jagiellonian University building and museum Collegium Maius – where one of the oldest Academies in Europe was established. The Jagiellonian University tour starts in the Libraria hall and includes a guided walk through medieval halls filled with marvelous paintings and memorabilia, such as a set of astronomical instruments dated to the same time when Nicholas Copernicus was a student at the university in Kraków, or equipment from the laboratory of Prof. Karol Olszewski who, in 1883, in collaboration with Prof. Zygmunt Wróblewski, carried out the first successful liquefaction of air components. Conference dinner
